Dine & Drink locally
Helmsley has a great variety of pubs and restaurants situated around the market square as well its own Brewery. Two of our favourites, are the Vine Café in Helmsley’s Walled Garden and the multi-award winning Pignut Restaurant.
A market is held in the square Friday mornings and there is an interesting range of delis and cafés and an ice cream parlour is just across the road.
Not far away, are a couple of Michelin* restaurants - the Star Inn, Harome and The Black Swan at Oldstead as well as a plethora of great pubs and cafes throughout the North York Moors and along the coast.

Walk from the barn door
The ruins of Helmsley Castle and picturesque Duncombe Park are within walking distance of the Barn.
Miles of hiking routes criss-cross the National Park. With stunning scenery, where wildlife abounds, and the chance to spot hares, curlews and lapwings in their natural habitat.
The Cleveland Way pathway starts right outside the Little Barn gate- running up past Rievaulx Abbey, through the National Park, then tracking down the Coast all the way to just beyond Whitby!
A drying store is situated by the door for all of your walking kit.

Cycle from the gate
The North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills are also blessed with miles of cycling tracks, suitable for all abilities. There are world class mountain bike and gravel trails at Sutton Bank and Dalby Forest where you can hire bikes and the Yorkshire Cycle Hub near Danby is a popular destination. Helmsley also has a bike repair and E-bike hire shop.
At the barn, you are welcome to make use of the drying store and basic bike tools are available.
